About Agganis Arena

Welcome to Agganis Arena at Boston University!

Agganis Arena opened its doors to the public on January 3, 2005, as the Boston University Men’s Ice Hockey team won the first game in the Arena’s history over the visiting University of Minnesota. Agganis Arena is a 290,000-square-foot multipurpose sports and entertainment center with 6,150 seats for hockey and ice shows and expandable to over 7,000 seats for concerts, sporting events, and family shows.

Agganis Arena is named in honor of Aristotle George “Harry” Agganis, one of Boston University’s most celebrated athletes and one of the most accomplished all-around athletes in American sports history. A standout football and baseball player at BU, Agganis went on to play professionally before his career was tragically cut short. His legacy of athletic excellence, character, and dedication to Boston University lives on through the Arena that bears his name. Learn more here.

In its history, the venue has welcomed millions of guests and has ranked in the top 15 of venues globally in its size category. Peer venues across the country include Red Rocks Amphitheatre,  Radio City Music Hall and the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live.
