TRAFFIC ADVISORY

Effective November 6, 2010, MassDOT will close all inbound travel lanes on Route 28 southbound at the intersection of Land Boulevard as part of the Craigie Drawbridge Rehabilitation Project Phase I. The Craigie Drawbridge carries McGrath O’Brien Highway (Route 28) between Land Blvd. in Cambridge and Leverett Circle in Boston.

Traffic trying to access I-93 and Storrow Drive will be detoured east over the Gilmore (Prison Point) Bridge towards Bunker Hill Community College/City Square. Traffic heading to I-93 Northbound will be directed left through Sullivan Square, while traffic trying to access I-93 Southbound and Route 1 via the Tobin Bridge will be directed to turn right. Traffic traveling to the Charles Circle Area will be detoured westbound down Land Boulevard to the Longfellow Bridge to cross the Charles River. Outbound traffic leaving Boston through Leverett Circle will be unaffected during this period.

From the North

  1. Take I-93 South to Boston.
  2. Take the Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave.)/Albany Street exit. Turn right onto Mass Ave.
  3. Travel along Mass Ave. and take a left onto Beacon Street.
  4. Take Beacon Street to Commonwealth Avenue.
  5. Bear right at the far end of Kenmore Square onto Commonwealth Avenue.
  6. Continue outbound on Commonwealth Avenue. Take a right onto Buick Street, and then a left at the end of the street.

From the South

  1. Take I-93 North to Boston.
  2. Take the Massachusetts Avenue (Mass Ave.)/Albany Street exit. Turn right onto Mass Ave.
  3. Travel along Mass Ave. and take a left onto Beacon Street.
  4. Take Beacon Street to Commonwealth Avenue.
  5. Bear right at the far end of Kenmore Square onto Commonwealth Avenue.
  6. Continue outbound on Commonwealth Avenue. Take a right onto Buick Street, and then a left at the end of the street.

From the West

  1. Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East. Take Exit 18 (Allston/Brighton).
  2. Bear left onto Cambridge Street. Follow to Harvard Street.
  3. Take a left at the set of lights onto Harvard Street. At the next set of lights turn left onto Brighton Avenue.
  4. Brighton Avenue will merge into Commonwealth Avenue (inbound). Continue on Commonwealth Ave. until the BU Bridge. Just before the brdige, take a right onto Essex St. and bear left onto Mountfort St.
  5. Keep to the left, and take the first left turn off of Mountfort St., which loops back to Commonwealth Ave. Take a left at the light on to Commonwealth Ave. and continue until Buick St.
  6. Take a right at Buick St. and then a left at the end of the street. You'll see Agganis Arena on your left.
